In the Spring of 1996, Karim Zaman attended Entrepreneur Magazine’s Entrepreneur Expo, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. There in attendance was a company called Comtel Communication displaying payphone programs for interested parties considering entering in the payphone industry. Since Mr. Zaman was interested in the starting a business he decided to buy into the program. He wrote a check to Comtel Communications for $3,120.00 for two payphones from his personal checking account. Under their program, he was set up with an account to operate payphones.

Since the inception of Mr. Zaman’s first endeavor – now known as The Payphone Company – it has grown into a full service Public Communications company with major accounts nationwide. The Payphone Company continues expanding its services through airport public communications, including: payphones, internet kiosks and pre-paid calling card venues inmate telephone service.

Karim Zaman is also President of The Zaman Group, a Joint Venture Partner in AMS JV of SoCal with Hudson Group, the premier travel retailer. The partnership jointly operates a 2,480 sq ft Hudson News store in Terminal 7 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Since the joint venture began operations on June 1, 2009, it has consistently been the number one or two highest revenue grossing Hudson News store at LAX.
